I photograph out of curiosity about the everyday. As an anthropologist and photographer, I focus on people, spaces and situations that are so familiar they often go unnoticed. I am interested in in-between moments, passers-by and places where seemingly little happens.

Using the camera as a research tool, I take the time to observe, make contact and look again. In portraits and images of spaces, I explore how people relate to their surroundings and what stories and meanings are embedded within them. In this way, I want to draw attention to the ordinary and make visible the many human stories hidden within everyday life.

A parking area along the highway is a place of temporary stay: people come and go, often without really meeting one another. Yet countless lives cross here every day. In Here for a moment, I turn my gaze to Aalburgen parking area along the A12.

By photographing people who stop here, I collect fragments of their stories. Where do they come from, where are they going, and why do they stop here? The series explores the tension between the anonymity of the place and the personal stories of its visitors. An everyday in-between space gains meaning through the people who gather there.
