For as long as I can remember, I have been drawn to places that evoke tension: industrial cities, abandoned spaces, tunnels, doorways, and anonymous apartment blocks. These are spaces where people do not usually linger, but which I know from train journeys, films, or fleeting encounters. Curiosity and discomfort coexist there. Sometimes a place remains in my mind for years before I visit it. Not because I find it conventionally beautiful, but because it stirs something I cannot immediately explain. By seeking out and photographing these places, I follow that fascination and try to make it visible in images.

Locked Out

For people experiencing homelessness, public space is not merely a route, but also a living environment where exclusion is a constant threat. Buitengesloten explores how the city determines who is welcome and who is not. Visible interventions designed to discourage people from staying are the starting point, but the project focuses on the human experience behind them: what does it mean when your surroundings make you feel that you are not allowed to be there? I wander through cities, meet people on streets, and collect stories and experiences. Image and text do not explain each other, but offer different perspectives.
