My name is Mariló Aguilera, born in Jaén, Spain. I am a photographer, artist and art teacher. My fascination with people and the different ways they move through the world is partly rooted in my traditional cultural background and the macho culture in which I grew up. I am drawn to people who move beyond the norm: flamboyant, outspoken, socially awkward or simply unconventional. I am fascinated by the duality of being different and the desire to belong, and by the strength that comes from embracing our individuality. My spontaneous nature makes me curious and open, while photography gives me a sense of calm. Behind the camera, I slow down, observe and create space for genuine encounters and connection, without judgement.

Outspoken

My work finds its origins in my childhood in Spain, where I grew up within a macho culture. Autonomy, independence and self-reliance as a woman were important values in my upbringing, without being named as feminism. At the same time, the image of feminism I encountered around me raised questions and contradictions. From this tension, my own search emerged. With my camera, I meet the women of Dolle Mina in Tilburg. Through intimate portraits and conversations, I explore their personal stories, experiences and motivations. What connects them, what distinguishes them, and which values matter to them today? What do womanhood, freedom and equality mean to them? And how do they view the world around them?

Here, somewhere I find my voice.
